Landscape designer in Memorial
Big lots, tall pines and live oaks, and water that has to go somewhere.
Memorial runs along Buffalo Bayou on Houston's west side, from Memorial Park out past the Beltway. Lots here are larger and more wooded than most of the city, so a design has to work around mature trees instead of starting from a bare yard.
Several pockets inside the Memorial area are their own cities, the Memorial Villages, with their own permit offices. We confirm which jurisdiction a property sits in before a plan is drawn so the drainage and structure details match what that city will review.
What we plan for in Memorial
- 1
Deep shade and surface roots
Heavy canopy means lawns thin out and beds stay damp. We plan shade-tolerant planting, keep excavation outside critical root zones, and use paver systems that can be lifted and reset if roots move them.
- 2
Bayou-area runoff
Homes along Buffalo Bayou downstream of the Addicks and Barker reservoirs took water during Harvey in 2017. Grading and drain lines get sized and routed first, then the patio and planting are drawn on top of that plan.
- 3
Large lots, long runs
Wide lots mean longer drain runs, longer walkways and more lighting circuits. A phased master plan lets the drainage and structure go in first without boxing in later work.

FAQ
Memorial questions most often.
Can you build a patio near a large oak or pine without hurting it?
Usually, yes, with the right layout. We keep heavy excavation outside the tree's critical root zone and use a paver or permeable base near the trunk instead of a poured slab. If a design can't protect the tree, we tell you before you pay for it.
Do Memorial Villages properties need different permits?
The Villages are separate cities, so permits go through that city instead of the City of Houston. We confirm the jurisdiction at the property consultation and plan drainage and structures to match its review.
Do you charge for the on-site consultation?
The discovery call is free. The on-site consultation has a $150 work scope fee, credited to your project if you move forward.
Who designs and who builds?
The same team does both. A Home Scout walks the property, the design is drawn in CAD with optional 3D renderings, and our crews build it. No subcontractor hand-offs.
